The Ohio Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at Hamilton County Development Company, Inc. exists to provide management assistance to existing and start-up small business owners in order to promote growth, expansion, management improvement and increased productivity.

Our staff is committed to providing Hamilton County small business owners with the tools necessary to meet the challenges of the future. The Small Business Development Center is funded by the U.S. Small Business Administration, the Ohio Department of Development and the Hamilton County Development Company, Inc. We maintain a highly trained, professional staff to assist our customers in developing solutions to meet their business goals.
Available Services
SBDC provides current and prospective business owners with the following:
- Free one-on-one business counseling.
- Research assistance to solve small business problems.
- Referrals for resources such as legal counsel, accounting services, finances, etc.
- Education in the form of the Management Development Seminar Series
Consulting Services
SBDC consultants will also help small business owners develop:
- Business/Financial Management
Review financial statements with business owners to assist in improving the company's bottom line. Guidance in creation of financial projections as part of loan package preparation and/or business planning.
- Business Planning
Provide the criteria and information required to assemble a well organized business plan, including research resources.
- Human Resource Management
Assist with human resource and employee issues, benefit and retirement planning.
- Marketing Strategy
Development of marketing strategy for your small business, including low cost marketing ideas that are easy enough that you can implement them yourself.
- Strategic Planning
Facilitate strategic planning sessions.
Loan Information
The SBDC provides information about various business financing options and assists in identification of the appropriate financial resources and loan packaging.

The SBDC consulting approach is one of guidance and education, not completing the work for the client. It is necessary that anyone requesting assistance must have a strong personal commitment to find and implement solutions facing that company.

First Step
If you are in the beginning stages of researching the start of your business, the first
place you should call is the First Stop Business Permit Center located in Columbus, Ohio.
You will receive a package of information that includes instruction for starting a small business
in the State of Ohio. Taxes, registering your business with the State, permits, Worker's Compensation, tax id #s, legal entities, and business planning. Call 1-800-248-4040. After you have reviewed the information, call the SBDC to schedule an appointment with a counselor.
